After Abortion
Many people in the community have unresolved issues because of having been involved in an abortion decision.
Abortion is a loss but there is no socially sanctioned way of coping or dealing with this loss.
At the Pregnancy Help Line we understand the complexities and difficulties that may arise because of a past abortion decision. We have experience in walking alongside people as they process their past and pain.
Our counsellors and pregnancy support workers are trained in the area of understanding post abortion grief.
Post abortion grief is real and we understand that you might be confused or upset because of your experience with abortion.
Some women may experience strong negative emotions after abortion. Sometimes this occurs within days and sometimes it may happen after many years. There are factors that may increase the risk of this happening, they can include:
- a woman’s age,
- the circumstances surrounding the abortion,
- the stage of pregnancy at which the abortion occurs
- and a woman’s beliefs.
Some consequences of abortion may include:
- Flashbacks of Abortion
- Sexual Dysfunction
- Relationship Problems
- Eating Disorders
- Alcohol and Drug Abuse
- Psychological Reactions
- Depression
- Guilt
- Anger
- Anxiety
- Suicidal Thoughts
- Anniversary Grief
